Your ideas
A name that comes from both of you
Blending the parents’ names is a meaningful way to name a baby — and you don’t have to settle for an invented word.
Two kinds of results
Real names are popular first names from US (SSA) and UK (ONS) top-name lists that share a beginning, an ending or a sound with each parent. Emma and James, for example, gives real options like Emmett and Emery.
New blends are invented names made from both of yours, filtered to a baby-friendly length.
Ideas beyond a straight blend
- Use a blend as a middle name and a classic as the first name.
- Combine grandparents’ names to honor the wider family (add more names on the main combiner).
- Use one parent’s initial with the other’s ending: Mark + Lily → Mily.
- Check how it sounds with your surname, and what the initials spell.

Frequently asked questions
How does the baby name combiner work?
It does two things. First it searches more than 400 popular first names from US and UK birth records for names that share a start, ending or sound with each parent. Then it blends both names directly and keeps the results that are a good length for a baby name.
Can I combine mom and dad’s names into a boy or girl name?
Yes. Each real-name suggestion is labeled girl, boy or unisex, based on how the name is most commonly used today. Blended names are gender-neutral — you decide.
Is it a good idea to name a baby after both parents?
Many families love it because the name carries a story. The main risks are unusual spellings and names that sound invented. Using the blend as a middle name is a popular compromise.
Where do the real name suggestions come from?
From the most popular baby names in recent US Social Security Administration and UK Office for National Statistics lists. We match names by shared letters and sounds — popularity isn’t used for ranking.
Why are there no real names for our pair?
Some name pairs simply don’t overlap with popular first names. In that case, check the New blends tab, try nicknames (e.g. Kate instead of Katherine) or include a grandparent’s name on the main combiner.
