Name Combiner

Combine two names into one — or blend up to six. Get dozens of pronounceable ideas for couples, babies, friends and brands in a second.

Try:
How it works

Three steps, about two seconds

1

Type your names

Add two names — or up to six on this page. First names, surnames, nicknames and words all work.

2

Pick the balance

Choose “More of first”, “Balanced” or “More of second” to control how much of each name survives.

3

Save your favorites

Tap the heart to keep a name, hear it read aloud, copy it, or share a link to your results.

Under the hood

How the name combiner builds a name

Most combiners chop names in half and glue them together. Ours generates thousands of candidates using six methods, then scores every one for how easy it is to say.

Overlap blends

Finds a letter both names share and joins on it — the trick behind Brangelina (Brad + Angelina) and Bennifer.

Syllable blends

Splits each name into syllables (Jen·ni·fer, O·li·vi·a) and joins whole sounds, so results don’t break mid-sound.

Letter splits

Tries every cut point between the two names to catch blends the syllable rules miss.

Multi-name chains

For three to six names it chains first syllables, tries every order, and checks whether the initials spell a word.

Classic formats

Includes the forms people actually use on invitations and social bios: Emma & James, Emma-James, E&J.

Cute short forms

Turns the best blends into nicknames with -ie, -y, -boo and -kins endings.

Uses

What people use combined names for

Couples & weddings

A shared nickname, an Instagram handle for the two of you, a wedding hashtag or a monogram for invitations. Celebrity “supercouple” names like Bennifer made the idea mainstream; now everyone has one.

Babies

Blending both parents’ names is a lovely way to honor each side of the family. Our baby name combiner also finds real, popular first names that echo both of you.

Families & surnames

Marrying couples in the UK and US increasingly double-barrel or mesh their surnames. The last name combiner shows every option side by side.

Businesses & brands

Two founders, two words, one brand. Blends like Microsoft (microcomputer + software) and Pinterest (pin + interest) are memorable because they carry both ideas. Try the business name combiner.

Friends, groups & fandoms

Group chat names, BFF names, team names — and ship names for fictional couples. The ship name generator knows the fandom formats too.

Pets, Wi-Fi & usernames

A puppy named after both owners, a gaming tag, a home Wi-Fi network name. Short, pronounceable blends work best.

Choosing

How to pick the right combined name

  1. Say it out loud. Use the speaker button on any result. If you stumble saying it, others will too.
  2. Check both names survive. The best blends keep a recognizable piece of each name — usually the start of one and the end of the other.
  3. Write it down. Some names sound great but look odd in writing (or spell an unfortunate word). We filter obvious offensive words, but read your shortlist with fresh eyes.
  4. Test it in context. Put it in a sentence, a hashtag, a username or on a mock invitation.
  5. Check availability. For brands, usernames and domains, search before you fall in love with a name.
  6. Sleep on it. Save your top five with the heart button and come back tomorrow — your list stays in this browser.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I combine two names into one?

Type both names into the boxes above and press Combine names. The tool joins the start of one name to the end of the other at many different points, scores each result for how easy it is to say, and shows the best ones first. You can switch the balance to keep more of either name.

What is it called when you combine two names?

A blend of two names is called a portmanteau — the same word used for blended words like “brunch” (breakfast + lunch). For celebrity couples the press calls it a supercouple name; in fandoms it is a ship name.

Can I combine more than two names?

Yes. Click Add name to blend up to six names — useful for families, friend groups, siblings or a business with several founders. With three or more names the tool also tries every order and checks whether the initials form a word.

Does the name combiner work with surnames and other languages?

It works with any name written in the Latin alphabet, including accented names (José, Zoë, Siân), which are simplified to plain letters for blending. For surnames, the last name combiner adds double-barrelled options.

Is this name combiner free and private?

It is completely free with no sign-up and no limits. All the combining happens in your own browser — the names you type are never sent to our servers. Saved names are stored only on your device.

Why do some results look strange?

The tool generates thousands of candidates and only shows those that pass its pronounceability checks, but language is messy and some blends will still look odd. Use the tabs to switch between blends, cute short forms and classic formats, and use the speaker button to hear a name before you decide.

Can I use a combined name for my business?

Yes — the names are yours to use. Before you commit, check trademarks in your country (USPTO in the US, the IPO in the UK), domain availability and social handles. Our business name combiner adds brandable variations.
